cover reveal, New Book

The Fae King’s Prize

I think Jamie Schlosser’s Between Dawn and Dusk series is the only Fae-themed collection of romance novels that can get me to count down the days. Now there’s a new book coming on April 8th, just in time for me to have something lovely to read when I’m up late with a new born!

When I wake up at a female auction in a world I don’t recognize, all I can think about is getting back home to Texas. I want absolutely nothing to do with a realm called Valora, magic, faeries, or being sold to the highest bidder.

But the Day Realm king has other plans.

Zander says I’m his fated mate. I don’t believe him. That doesn’t stop him from tricking me into marrying him, though. It doesn’t matter if I argue or run—he won’t let me go.

I should hate him. Instead, I find myself ridiculously attracted to the stubborn, broody man. Sometimes he terrifies me, so I don’t know why his rare smiles give me warm tingles or why his arms make me feel safe.

Everything about Valora is confusing, but after just a short time here, I realize something—this place is full of dangers that are way more frightening than my new husband, and staying by his side just might be my only option.

Overdrive

Hello dear readers and thank you to Kelsey for hosting the Calhouns on your blog.

Juanita Kees at Count’s Kustoms

Hello dear readers and thank you to Kelsey for hosting the Calhouns on your blog.

The idea for Calhoun Customs Garage was born out of my love for NASCAR and programs like Counting Cars, Overhaulin’ and West Coast Customs. The people behind the scenes of these television shows are passionate about what they do. Often, the business is a family affair, like Orange County Choppers, for example. And, like the Teutul family, where there is passion there is bound to be drama, conflict and a romance or two.

The over-arching plot of the series is set around the importance of family. Marty Calhoun has Parkinson’s Disease and he knows he only has a small window in which to reunite his scattered family. Two of his sons, Chase and Carter have stayed in Bigfork, Montana while the other three have drifted away from the town. He’d like to have them all home again and settled before his time runs out.

Chase, being the eldest, is the first sibling I tackled in book 1, Overdrive. He’s a workaholic with no time to date, let alone fall in love. Ha! That’s what he thought 😊. Along comes Charlotte (Charlie) Jackson, outrunning her rebellious past and finding shelter in the attic above the garage. The two lovers take a bumpy ride together on the road to their happy-ever-after.

Goodreads reviewer, Isha, had this to say about Overdrive: “Steers full throttle through life, love and redemption to find a home within your heart. I hope you’ll fall in love with the men, women and children of Calhoun Customs Garage.

I would recommend that the books are read in order of release as you will also meet Mason in book 1, and the lead up to his story in book 3, Burnout, is littered throughout the first two releases. Book 2, Fast Lane is due for release on July 23rd, 2019. Happy reading!

Excerpt:

Long eyelashes brushed her cheeks in sleep. Lips made for kissing parted on the soft rhythm of her breathing. She most definitely didn’t look like a criminal on the run. Just a tired young mother. An extraordinarily beautiful Sleeping Beauty like the one in the fairy tales his mom used to read to Grace. If he were that prince, he’d happily kiss her awake.

The baby let out a wail that killed any remotely romantic ideas forming in his mind. Green eyes fluttered open, muddled with sleep. She pushed herself up on her elbow and paused as if orientating herself to her surroundings before reaching for the bundle in the basket.

“Hey, baby. Is it feeding time already? Hush now.” She cuddled the baby to her, making cooing noises that made Chase wish he was the one she held in her arms.

He waited in the shadows until the baby had settled and the hum of infant noises and soothing lullabies filled the air. It reminded him of a long time ago when his mom’s soft singing had flowed through the attic space at night. There was something exceptionally beautiful about the bond between mother and baby, a sight he was more than happy to enjoy now that he knew he wasn’t imagining things.

He let his words drift quietly into the almost-silence. “So that’s what happened to my chicken salad sandwich.”

With love comes a little overhauling …

Ex NASCAR race king, Marty Calhoun, has built a legacy for his family, and now it’s time to round them up and bring them home to claim it. Each of his five children have hearts in need of overhauling. They all have hard lessons to learn. The one thing Marty wants most is to see his children find happiness and love at Calhoun Customs Garage.

OVERDRIVE

Chase Calhoun has worked hard at making Calhoun Customs a world-wide sensation and keeping his father’s dream alive. He hasn’t had time to think about settling down, so he’s not expecting to find love or new life hiding in the attic of their garage among the ghosts of his family’s past.

Charlotte Jackson is on the run from a rebellious past, determined to prove she can be a good mom to three-month-old baby, Zoe. Tired of being delegated to the back office of the racing team her famous NASCAR family owns, she sets out to establish herself as a custom design artist. But she’s out of money, luck and time, and she can’t hide in the attic at Calhoun Customs forever.

While Chase slowly loses his heart to his refrigerator thief and the baby bundle asleep in his laundry basket, Charlotte learns that sometimes family is more than just blood and DNA.

Covet

Who here remembers Vice, a steamy little number by Rosanna Leo? Well, get ready to swoon because book two in the Vegas Sin Series, Covet, is here!

Heat Level: ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Overall Rating: 6/6 Glass Slippers

Dana’s fiancé crushed her in the worst way possible; over a stale muffin in a hospital cafeteria after she’s given a painful diagnosis. So she sashays away like Diana Ross and goes to drown her sorrows in a local bar. As the saying goes, the best way to get over a man is to get under another and her new friend at the bar, Alex, fits the bill.

Las Vegas developer Alex has a bit of a reputation and a bit of a following, so he gives a fake last name when he meets Dana, and they share an hour together that rocks his world. But when he goes back to find her, his Cinderella is gone and she doesn’t even leave a slipper behind. Months later, he’s still wondering what became of the girl with the midnight eyes that haunt his daydreams.

When their paths do cross, it might take more than a few glasses of white and a few minutes of privacy to pick up where they left off. They’re both carrying their own heavy baggage, but if they can learn to let go, they might just be okay.

As you know, I’ve already rated this book a 6/6 on the Slipper Scale. It was hot, hot, hot, sweet, dramatic, and hot. But it didn’t just make me blush, it made me think and feel, something that not every book can do.

I felt for poor Dana, left by a man mere minutes after being told her chances of having a child were down to almost nothing. And I felt for poor Alex, hounded by the press after a tragedy that basically forced him to move across the country. They had complex backstories that didn’t weigh down the story, but humanized the characters.

But their chemistry was electric. Their banter and the little ways they interacted made their relationship believable and fun. Their passionate climb out of the darkness has that perfect spin that makes you remember what you love about romance novels.

Hard Lesson

It’s been a minute since we last posted a book review, so I broke the silence with Hard Lesson by Savannah Skye. It had a colorful cover and the promise of some rockstar fun.

Heat Level:♥♥♥♥♥

Genre: Contemporary Rockstar Romance

Overall Rating: 6/6 Glass Slippers

Cherie is not only the social media person for the band, but the little sister of one of the member’s named Rory. The fact that she’s so close to the brother who raised her makes her hopeful entanglement with a certain person a little sketchy. But she’s been hung up on Dev for far too long and has come up with a plan to get him out of her system for good.

Rocker Dev has only recently noticed Cherie. But since she’s his best friend’s sister, he has to stay away. She’s worth more than the one night stands he’s famous for, but like he says, he isn’t a forever kind of guy. When Cherie, thinking she doesn’t have the edge to seduce him, asks him to give her lessons on landing a man, he’s surprised. But when someone else starts zoning in on Cherie, he might have to break his own rules.

Dev comes up with “lesson plans” to teach Cherie the art of kissing and seduction and they promise complete secrecy surrounding their little classes…except for her bff Gina who thinks that Dev is nothing but trouble for the virginal Cherie. There are spa days, pep talks, new clothes, and a spark between them that just can’t be denied.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s a great take on the rocker romance where the girl isn’t just some lucky groupie, but someone with shared history and an actual initial interest in the man in question. The build up to the saucier scenes are great, and the pace doesn’t leave you bored. It’s a great one sit read where you’ll both admire Cherie for her bravery and curse her for playing with fire. But with a leading man like Dev, could you blame her?

This book is fun, flirty, and just what you like to see with a contemporary romance. The book was a little hard to get into at first, but by the time you get into the storyline and meet the cast, you’re really in for an awesome ride. There’s hot sex, forbidden feelings, family secrets, and a few twists and turns to keep you on your toes. It’s a great book to get into this football season, especially if you’re like me and don’t watch the games

Excerpt:

“Come with me. I want to show you something.”

“Sounds mysterious.”

“I will admit I was keeping this a secret, but I’ve made an executive decision to break with Handymen tradition.”

“What will Lacey think?”

“Let’s not go there.” He brought her upstairs, to the room that used to be the master bedroom, the one where several crew members stowed their belongings most days. Michael opened the door. At the far end of the empty room sat a large object, covered in a long tarp. “I’ve been working on something for you.”

“You mean other than renovating my house?”

He grinned. “Remember those old family photos Lacey borrowed from you?”

“Yeah. She said they wanted to include a montage of old pictures in the show introduction.”

“That might have been a slight fabrication. I just needed a way to get some photos from you. Anyway, I was saving this for the big reveal, but I think I want to show you now.” He grabbed the edge of the tarp and pulled, revealing the object hidden beneath it.

It was an old wooden ladder, one he’d found months ago at a salvage yard. He’d decided to repurpose it, turning it into a set of frames for the old photos they’d borrowed. Faces now smiled out from the six gaps between the rungs. Nonna Olivia hugging two blond children, Emily and her brother. Nonna Olivia and her husband on their wedding day. Six photos in total, all part of the heritage Emily so treasured. He hoped she’d like the rustic look of the ladder. Rather than sanding and painting it, he’d left it rough and worn, so that it looked as if it might have been sitting in Nonna Olivia’s toolshed, just waiting to be used. All Michael had done was affix the appropriate hooks and backings and had blown all the photos up to sizes that would fit the spaces.

Emily gazed upon her grandmother’s face. Her chest heaved. She blinked once, then twice. All at once, big, fat tears began to roll down her cheeks. “Michael, it’s…”

“I hope you don’t mind I used the photos. I thought it might be nice for you to have mementos of your grandmother in the finished store.”

“Oh.” Her hand covered her mouth but it shook so much she was unsuccessful at covering her open mouth.

“I hope you like it. You’ve had a shitty week and I thought you could use a pick-me-up. I was supposed to keep quiet about it, so maybe you could keep it under your hat until—”

Emily threw herself at him and wrapped her arms around his torso, cutting off his words and his breath. Only when he hugged her back did he realize how hard she was quivering.

She wasn’t just crying about the old photos.

“It’s okay, Em. Let it out, sweetheart.”

The collar of his shirt grew wet but he didn’t care. Wardrobe had tons of shirts. Besides, she felt good in his arms, all soft and warm. He rubbed her shoulders and the back of her waist, exploring and familiarizing himself with her luscious body. He breathed, drinking in her scent. His nasal cavities had never known such bliss. It was like that first clear breath after a long period of congestion. His fingers were pretty happy too, enjoying the give of her womanly body. It was all he could do not to slide them down, cup her sweet ass, and pull her up against him.

Just not while she was crying over another man.

She lingered in his arms and he did nothing to push her away. In fact, it surprised him how badly he wanted to keep her there, so much so that when Emily finally extricated herself, he wanted to pull her back into his embrace. Instead, he wiped her cheeks of the remaining tears.

“The makeup ladies are going to kill me for making you cry.”

It might have been his imagination, but her tears made her eyes appear even greener. In fact, her entire face seemed a riot of tempting color. Each shade called to him. The crushed roses in her cheeks. Her strawberry lips, so plump and moist. Even the doeskin brown of her freckles fascinated him to no end. He wanted to count them, to kiss and mark them all.

Kissing her made a whole lot of sense right now. Kissing her senseless seemed even better.

Emily’s eyes widened. Her lips parted in invitation. Michael paused, knowing it was wrong, even though every raised hair on his arms told him it was right.

As he debated with himself for a split second, she brushed her lips against his. It was quick and soft, hunger masquerading as something platonic. Even though a spectator might have called it a friendly kiss, he knew the truth. As brief as it may have been, he felt her yield to him, even if just a little.

From the startled look in her eye, Emily knew it too.

She took a step back. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that.”

“You’re right. I should have been the one to do it.” Michael licked his lips. “Your lips really do taste like strawberries.”

“Michael, I can’t.”

“I think you just did.”

“You know what I mean.” She waved her hand between their two torsos. “This. I can’t do this.”

“What? Point at my chest?”

“You’re teasing me.”

“Maybe a little. Listen, Em, I understand. As unexpected as that kiss was, as much as I want to taste your lips again, I know it’s too soon.”

“It’s too much, too soon.”

He reached for her hand. “I get it. It’s okay.”

“Thank you.”

“But that doesn’t mean I won’t be spending all my waking hours waiting for the moment I can make it happen again.”

“Michael.”

“Don’t worry. I’d never force the matter. Besides, I enjoyed having you thrust yourself at me.”

“Are you ever going to let me live it down?”

“Not in this century, sweetheart.”
