Royal Ruin

There’s something special about a royal romance. The dashing prince or king falling for the commoner is an adult fairytale we all would like to live in. Add in a fake relationship and I’m sold! Introducing Royal Ruin by Jessica Peterson, book one in the Thorne Monarchs series.

  • Genre: Contemporary Royal Romance
  • Heat Level:❤️❤️❤️
  • Overall Rating: 5/6 Glass Slippers

While studying abroad in college, Emily spent one passionate night with her teaching assistant, Kit. But Kit isn’t just someone who grades papers in immaculate suits. He’s also third in line to the British crown. But one night was all they had before cutting ties for ten years.

Ten years later, Emily is an interior designer, but her business is going under, just like her marriage had, and a gig at Buckingham Palace may be her last. Crown Prince Kit hasn’t forgotten the green eyed beauty that captured his heart, but a family scandal needs to be buried under a news story, a better one for the press to be distracted by.

Emily needs money to save her business and Kit needs a fake fiancé to fool the people. One ironclad contract later and they’re both on their way to getting what they want. But when the contract ends, will they be able to go back to their old lives?

Kit made the book for me. Really, he was witty, charming, and full of feeling. I liked Emily well enough, although she sometimes was a little too complacent for me, but Kit was the best. He was really all I look for in a royal love interest from the fancy title and lineage to the romantic notions of love over duty. And did I mention the sex? Well, it was fantastic.

Overall, this book is great for all fake relationship, royal, and/or second change romance lovers out there. Happy reading!

New Book

When We’re Thirty

Happy Thursday, reading friends! I have a few romance tropes that are generally always winners for me. One of those is the ver popular “fake relationship to love” theme, which I find really satisfying! So when Casey Dembowski came out with When We’re Thirty, I knew I found a new book to add to my TBR. BTW she’s a fellow New Jersey native!

Two friends. One pact. The performance of their lives.

Hannah Abbott is stuck in a dead-end relationship and at a job she loves but that barely pays the bills. The four walls of her tiny New York City apartment have never seemed so small. She’s barely toasted her thirtieth birthday when her old college friend Will knocks on her door with an unexpected proposal. Will Thorne never forgot the marriage pact he made with Hannah, but he also never imagined he’d be the one to initiate it. One ex-fiancée and an almost-career-ending mistake later, however, he finds himself outside Hannah’s door, on bended knee, to collect on their graduation-night pinky promise. With both of their futures at stake, Hannah and Will take a leap of faith. Now, all they have to do is convince their friends and family that they’re madly in love. As long as they follow the list of rules they’ve drafted, everything should go smoothly. Except Will has never been good with rules, and Hannah can’t stop overthinking the sleeping arrangements. Turning thirty has never been so promising.

Casey Dembowski loves to write stories that focus on the intricacies of relationships—whether they be romantic, familial, or friendship. Her novels focus on the inner workings of women and how everything in their lives leads them to exactly where they are, whether they like it or not.

The first story Casey remembers writing was in the second grade, though it wasn’t until she turned twelve that she started carrying a battered composition notebook everywhere she went. Since then, there hasn’t been a time when she isn’t writing.

Casey lives in New Jersey with her husband, daughter, and their two cats. She has an MFA in Fiction from Adelphi University and currently works in corporate marketing communications. In her (limited) spare time, she enjoys reading, baking, and watching her favorite television shows on repeat.

book review

Stirred

Late nights up with a newborn means lots of time for reading new books and expanding my list of authors I love. I recently picked up an ebook copy of Stirred, Twisted Fox Book One, by Charity Ferrell and want to talk about it.

  • Genre: Contemporary Romance
  • Heat Level: ❤️❤️❤️❤️
  • Overall Rating: 6/6 Glass Slippers

Dr. Jamie Gentry was once Cohen Fox’s girlfriend’s geeky, younger sister. But in the five years since he last saw her, she’s grown into a beautiful woman. Too bad the history between him and his ex’s family makes him less than thrilled to see her again when she steps through the door at the hospital. The patient in question is Cohen’s five year old son Noah, the same one Jamie’s sister abandoned shortly after birth, the one her parents pushed to adopt from him.

Jamie has been longing to know her only nephew, but his father made it clear he’s uninterested in fostering a relationship between them. Her only in when it comes to building a family is the fact that she’s a doctor and Noah’s sick enough for her to make a house call to follow up on him.

The tension of old wounds begin to melt away, leaving behind a new kind of pull that draws Jamie and Cohen together. But is there too much history between them to make it all work?

I’m usually not one for romances that involve kids, but the reviews were so good on this book, I had to get it. Noah was written really well and didn’t have that stereotypical “precocious kiddo who wants a new mom” vibe that I’ve read before. Ferrell managed to keep him sounding and acting as a normal child, so I was able to focus on the romance.

Cohen and Jamie’s backstory made for a complicated, messy, and painful beginning. They each had their own lives following their dreams, but both were missing something vital only the other could give. I was rooting for them after the first few chapters and just waiting for one of them to give it.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book, and since it’s only book one in a five part series, so far, I’ll have plenty to do when I’m up all night.
