Happy holidays everyone!

We’re had such a fun year so far as friends and writers. Sarah’s been busy with her recent move to Virginia and her job in personnel security. Kelsey’s still working for the nonprofit and her daughter started kindergarten.

We’ve been to New York City for dinner with Tule Publishing, went to Hallmark’s first Christmas Con, and had some of our books pitched to film directors. Between late night phone calls, constant rewrites, and brainstorming sessions, we’ve also began more writing projects we hope to share more about soon.

We’re thrilled to say we’ve set up a special holiday sale to round out the year where Royally Abandoned will be on sale for only $0.99 from now until December 26th!

Publishers Weekly Review

Sarah and I are super excited to share a very special review. The wonderful team at Tule Publishing submitted Royally Abandoned to Publishers Weekly for review and they accepted it! Here’s their thoughts on our sweet, holiday, royal romance:

Fischer (the Elton Hall Chronicles) and McKnight (What Happens in the Highlands) team up for this lighthearted royal romance with a twist: the royal would rather not be royal. Determined to abdicate the throne of Aldora, Prince Greyson Montgomery travels from Aldora, an island kingdom off the coast of England, to Savannah, Ga., where he finds a job as a construction worker and meets Savannah socialite Scarlett Calhoun. As Scarlett falls for Greyson and his appealing, caring nature, he is impressed by her easygoing, charitable attitude. Ironically, Greyson’s omission of his royal status makes him less appealing to Scarlett’s mother, who seems to believe that a construction worker is not good enough for her daughter, adding a possible impediment to their relationship. When Scarlett decides to spend Christmas with Greyson in Aldora and he finally tells her about his royal heritage, they both must decide whether the revelation of his princely status will affect the possibility of their future together. Fans of prince and commoner romances will enjoy this variation on the theme. (Oct.)

Isn’t that exciting? We hope all your royal romance lovers out there love it just as much!

book review

A Small Town Christmas

It’s almost Christmas in July, which means it’s time to get in the spirit of things. I did it by reading A Small Town Christmas by Nan Reinhardt, book one in the Four Irish Brothers Winery series. P.S. the second book in the series, Meant to Be, comes out July 18th.

  • Genre: Christmas Romance
  • Heat Level: ❤️
  • Overall Rating: 6/6 Glass Slippers

Samantha “Sam” Hayes works hard for what she has and loves her job as a lawyer in Chicago. When she’s sent to help her boss’s brother in a little town, she jumps at the chance for an easy assignment and some well deserved rest. But as soon as her BMW breaks down outside of town, she realizes she’s not in for a cake walk. However, a handsome stranger helps her change her tire and promises a silver lining.

Conor Flaherty is a busy man between running Four Irish Brothers Winery and raising his young daughter Alannah alone. His stepmother and step siblings are making his life difficult by pushing him to hand over chunks of the winery they don’t deserve. His brother promises to send down a shark lawyer to sort things out, but the last person he expects to see in his office is the beautiful woman he once helped.

Close quarters make attraction easy for the pair, who have more in common than they thought. But both have pasts, and a future together means overcoming their own baggage.

I’ll start off by saying I found this single dad angle to be refreshing. In some books, the kid is nothing more than a romantic angle and is basically given to the newly introduced love interest for diaper changes and bedtime snuggles. Gag. No real parent would meet someone they wanted to date and then pass of their child to a complete stranger for bath time. But Reinhardt didn’t fall into that “useless dad” trope. Conor is a good parent and a believable one at that. Alannah is a real person in this book, a welcome twist to other novels.

It isn’t just his parenting that makes Conor a heartthrob. He’s smart and driven, but not in an unobtainable billionaire type of way. He could be a real person. Sam’s the same way. She’s a hardworking career woman, but she’s not aloof or out of touch with life. I rooted for them from chapter one.

Overall, I found this book to be a refreshing take on single parent romances and put me in the mood for a good glass of wine.
