Fame & Obsession (Lords of Lyre)

A rockstar romance is becoming more and more popular so I tend to get really excited when I read a different take on it. Fame & Obsession the first book in the Lords of Lyre series by Cora Kenborn is just that.

What happens when southern belle Phoebe moves to the big city to try and be an author. She is desperate to leave her past behind her and start a new life. There is just one problem, now she is ghostwriting the autobiography of a sexy rockstar. But there is something special about him…other than his muscles, brooding eyes, and luscious lips. There was an accident years ago and Phoebe is determined to get to the truth out of Julian if it kills her.

Julian is obviously attracted to Phoebe but she has the potential to ruin everything that he has tried to keep hidden. He plans to keep their relationship a professional one but like all the best laid plans, fate has a new idea. They are soon falling into each other’s arms and beds.

There is just one problem that the two of them didn’t consider. A crazed fan is now aware of their relationship and she is threatening their secrets and their lives. While Julian cares for Phoebe, does he care enough? Will his secret become more important than her or will he try desperately to keep her secret too?

I enjoyed a lot of things about this book. The banter between the main characters is amazing. I think that Kenborn did a great job and I found myself laughing out loud. This is a fun book to read when you’re in a bad mood or you need something to distract yourself from problems, personal drama, or responsibilities.

However, there were a lot of unresolved issues in this book that will hopefully be resolved in book 2. While I am not the biggest fan of reading series books when the second one isn’t out yet, I am glad that I read this. Kenborn does a great job with character and emotional development. I was rooting for the characters and desperate to see what happened.

This was a HOT book. When I say HOT, I don’t mean that it verged on erotica but it is not for the faint of heart. There are some intense scenes that I think were well written but they may be too much for some people.

Make sure to stay tuned for book 2.
