Good morning! What better way to start a Tuesday than with a little bit of erotica? Recently I read His Confession by S.Valentine and found myself surprisingly enthralled with this story. It’s the first book in The Black Door Trilogy, which is awesome, since it ends on such a cliffhanger! Let’s begin;
Heat Rating: ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Overall Rating: 5/6 Glass Slippers
This book is written in dual POV starring Gabi and Darion. Gabi is in a passionless relationship with an older man while Darion is the chain smoking strip club owner that is still licking his wounds from a failed marriage. While, at the beginning, you would think that the two had nothing in common, their sexual chemistry is undeniable.
At some points you find yourself wondering why any girl would want to be with a guy like Darion. He bangs his employees and might have a bit of a drinking problem. Call me an old-fashioned gal, but I like a bit of restraint and romance in my life. Still, he’s the guy who will push you up against a wall with no problem and show you his bag of tricks in en elevator. Did I mention he’s a hot hard-body with some sweet rides? That always helps. Gabi needs a guy like him to shake up her boring life. She’s like a bird in a gilded cage and Darion’s wild personality is just the thing to bring her back to life.
As far as erotica goes, Valentine does a good job of still giving the reader a satisfying storyline. Sometimes the pacing is too fast, but overall there weren’t any issues of understanding the plot, or the characters. While it’s not all roses and candle light, it’s gritty and real. Relationships aren’t always clean cut and charming and you can see this through Darion and Gabi’s twisting relationship. It’s messy as hell and full of real-life drama that people can relate with, even if they don’t want to admit it.
I would recommend this book to first time erotica readers. It’s not too dirty and has a plot that really gets you involved. While you can understand the motivations of the characters, you never really know how their lives will play out. His Confession was full of curve balls and steamy moments that makes it worth a read.
